◆ Cultivating Plants in Green Heart Garden
Our Nature Area is composed of three distinct sections: Green Heart Garden, Forest Whisper, and Glowing Pond. These sections all adhere to the Satoyama Initiative, which strives for a harmonious balance between wildlife and students.
The Green Heart Garden has seven subsections, including the Bird Attraction Section, the Ecology Pond Section, the Honey Plant Section, the Succulent Section, the Orchard Section, the Fagaceae Section, and the Crop Section.
The Bird Attraction Section features juicy trees, flowers with abundant honey, and a variety of fruit-bearing plants that attract many avian species. The Ecology Pond Section is populated with submergent and emergent plants, the former of which grow in deeper water, and the latter of which have leaves extending to the surface. The Honey Plant Section contains flowers that produce honey, such as Lantana camara and Impatiens walleriana. The Succulent Section is home to plants typically found in deserts, such as cacti and dragon fruit. The Orchard Section is populated with common fruits, including oranges, pomelos, and guavas. The Fagaceae Section is home to plants that yield nuts, which are a favorite of squirrels. Finally, the Crop Section is our favorite section where we plant various vegetables, such as mushrooms and carrots.

Aside from growing those crops for birds and other animals, we also took a rehabilitation action for a rare kind of flower, Formosa Lily. Formosa Lily represents freedom and courage. Our nature teacher taught us the importance of this flower, and we helped spread its seeds in our Green Heart Garden. To make sure the project worked, we also planted some seeds in nursery lands. Once the seeds started to sprout, older students moved them to a bigger field. This project was important for our land and also meaningful for us.
