◆ Lives in His Tea Field

Following the idea of the Satoyama Initiative, Mr. Wang's tea field is full of life, from small insects, such as dragonflies, ladybugs, and spiders, to rare species, such as pangolins, fireflies, Taiwan endemic Emerald Green Treefrogs, and Harvest Mice (Micromys minutus).
Mr. Wang is an example of someone who practices sustainable farming. He uses no chemicals and goes to extra lengths to create safe habitats for the species that live in his tea field. When he weeds his field, he leaves some in place so they can be used as homes by fireflies and harvest mice. When the government discovered Emerald Green Treefrogs in his field, they provided him with buckets so he could cultivate and protect them. Mr. Wang has been doing this for many years, and his commitment to sustainable farming is admirable.
As we walked around his tea field, he shared many fascinating and unbelievable stories with us. One day, while he was trimming the weeds, he noticed a group of harvest mice. His daughter, who had inherited her father's kind heart, took good care of them. Despite this, the mice eventually followed their natural instinct and left, but they would always come back to find food stored in the kitchen.
When he shared those stories with us, we realized how important it is to be generous and contribute to protecting the biodiversity of one's land.
