Tea Grower You-Li, Wang
Tea Grower You-Li, Wang
After interviewing Professor Chen, he recommended that we visit a tea field called "Growing Spring Tea Field”. Therefore, On January 18th, 2023, we visited You-Li Wang’s tea farm in Pinglin, Wenshan district of Taipei, Taiwan. Pinglin has a long history of tea cultivation dating back to the late 19th century, and is now renowned for its high-quality Baozhong tea production. Surrounded by mountains, the area also serves as a home to many rare species, although many of the tea growers in the region use fertilizers and pesticides in their cultivation. However, Mr. Wang has chosen to grow his tea organically, providing a safe haven for the local wildlife.
After a long and bumpy journey, we finally arrived at Mr. Wang's tea field. The mist blocked our view of the area until we reached our destination. There, we were greeted by a skinny but tanned figure wearing a large bamboo hat. That was Mr. Wang. Mr. Wang smiled warmly at us as he welcomed us, and we were eager to hear his story of why he decided to implement the Satoyama Initiative in his tea field.
