At the second interview, we went to the headquarters of the x5 Charity Foundation. It was a great experience. We took the bus at school to the foundation. We first watched a video about the foundation and the people they help. After that, we took a tour at the foundation. We read some letters from the kids they helped, and it was touching because it showed how the foundation helped them. Then, we had some snacks, that was good. At the end of the tour, Dr. Lin gave us some gifts, a money bank and a pair of socks with the foundation’s logo on them. We had a great tour and went back to school happily.

After visiting Dr. Lin’s foundation, I have a better understanding of the philosophy of the foundation and how they use the money they make to help children in remote rural areas with rare diseases. Dr. Lin used his own income and saved money to travel abroad to establish a foundation to help others. He really is a great selfless person. As soon as I entered the foundation, I saw that the interior decoration was modern and beautiful, and the environment made people feel very warm and comfortable, which is really impressive and made me look forward to our later meeting. During our visit, we watched the documentary of the rural elementary school that received support from the foundation recently, and we also saw the letters written by the children to the doctors. I think Dr. Lin is really important because he gave those children the opportunity to be healthy and happy again. The social workers and doctors told us some stories of. In the sorties, although the mothers knew that it would be difficult to give birth to babies with physical defects, or to take care of them with, they did not give up their babies. After listening to those stories, besides being moved, I felt so happy and fortunate to be healthy. I have decided that in the future, I want to contribute a little bit of my power to help those in need if I have the opportunity.

We went to Dr. Tzu-Hung, Lin’s foundation. The social workers there were very enthusiastic and welcomed us to visit their foundation. The social workers showed us a video of how the foundation helped the children that needed help, and that really moved me. Hoping the children can grow up safe and happy, the foundation donated clothing, shoes, washing machine, utensils, and eye exam equipment, etc. We see a lot of cards and letters that give thanks to Dr. Tzu-Hung, Lin. We couldn’t wait to see him. Later, we finally saw Dr. Tzu-Hung, Lin. He’s so tall! We said hello to him, and he answered our questions patiently. I’m very moved that Dr. Tzu-Hung, Lin uses his money that he earned to help the children in need. I was thinking that if I were him, I would probably first take good care of myself then help others. Last, Dr. Tzu-Hung, Lin and the social workers told us more moving stories, making everyone want to cry. It also let me know more about Dr. Tzu-Hung, Lin’s foundation.

On Wednesday December 15, our club went to Dr. Tzu-Hung, Lin’s X5 Charity Foundation to interview, which made us know more about this foundation. They unconditionally help children with rare diseases and the pregnant women who carry them. They often go to remote rural areas and help people there. They provide daily supplies such as washing machines and musical instruments; they also provide rural education, so children there can learn with happiness and have a chance to make a living or have success in this society. As an obstetrics and gynecology doctor, he did make a lot of money. He and his wife can’t spend that much money, so he used to donate the money to the charities. However, he felt like engaging more with people in need, so he and his wife decided to establish X5 Charity Foundation. Every summer vacation, they go to eastern Taiwan and spend time with the children there. He said that the best way to reduce his stress from work is to see the smiles on the children he helped with.

When we first arrived at Dr. Lin’s foundation, many social workers welcomed us at the door. At the entrance of the foundation, there are many exquisite decorations, such as some pillows in the glass showcase, rubber ducklings in the pool, and their signboards. When we went inside, we could smell a fragrance similar to perfume, and the animals made of Lego pieces on the ceiling. When we went further in, we saw that some computers were turned on and had complicated programming codes on the screens. We could see the green wall outside from the glass in the room. The social workers showed us videos about the foundation’s Dreams-Come-True Program in rural areas in eastern Hualien. There, the foundation started after-school programs in schools, which allow children of different ages to learn together. They can learn various topics like music, art, sports, dance, and language. After watching the videos, a social worker gave us donuts and drinks for snacks. When Dr. Lin arrived at the foundation, he started talking as soon as he sat down. We asked him some questions, and he answered patiently. At the end, he gave us a X5 Foundation money bank as a souvenir. This visit was very interesting, and it also allowed me to know Dr. Lin’s foundation more.

After this visit, I learned more about the deeds of Dr. Lin’s X5 Foundation. For example, Dr. Lin goes to schools in remote areas to help them obtain daily supplies, and spends time playing with the children there. Dr. Lin said it made him feel very happy, because he could see happy smiles on those children’s faces. In fact, when we think that people there must be really grateful for what Dr. Lin has done, he is more grateful that he has the chance to use the money to do the right thing, rather than for his own benefit. It made me also want to use my pocket money to help children in remote villages or children with rare diseases. As the saying goes, "Helping others is the foundation of happiness." The X5 Foundation totally showed me the true essence of this. Starting from the basics, we too can help those in need.

It was a sunny day when we visited the X5 Foundation, the charity that our CyberFair club has been researching during club time. I was very nervous and excited to visit the charity that is giving unconditional devotion.
When we were visiting the charity, I noticed that instead of looking exhausted, Dr. Lin and the social workers' faces were covered with smiles. They also invited us to eat donuts! During the visit, we learned more about what the social workers’ do. They go to the rural areas to donate supplies. If there are pregnant women carrying fetuses with rare diseases, they will accompany them to get prenatal care checkups and chat with them so they don’t feel too worried or nervous, and have hope for the future. Also, I found out that social workers don't make a good salary. So I think they must be selfless to help the foundation spread kindness.
The most touching part for me are the cards on the table next to the door. Those cards were written by the children who the foundation has helped before. The words are not in neat handwriting, and they also have some wrong words. But every word on the cards shows their appreciation for this charity, which lets them have a better learning environment and sufficient resources, being closer towards their dream. After looking at these cards, my heart feels warm. One little card can show appreciation and happiness. It’s really amazing!

In this interview we saw X5 foundation’s workers and Dr. Lin himself. We heard the doctor sharing his own experiences and we also watched some videos about what the charity did, the Dreams-Come-True Program they established, what they will do in the future, and Dr. Lin’s dream. Before, he used to donate money to other charities, but he cannot control where the money goes or whom he helped. So in 2020, he decided to start a charity, so he can know better who he’s helping. I learned that Dr. Lin is a responsible doctor and very determined. If he decides that he wants to do something, he will do it and he will put in all his effort, so even if he fails, he will have no regrets.
We heard a story of Dr. Lin helping a baby that had a heart attack, which reminds me of a documentary about Japan's worst nuclear radiation accident. In this documentary, the medical team did their best to help others. The spirit of devotion and helping others is what moves me and also what we should learn from.

After the online interview we did last time, we have understood more about Dr. Tzu-Hung Lin and his helpers. In order to know more about them, the teacher decided to take us to the foundation to learn more.
Finally, on December 15th, a total of ten classmates from the CyberFair Club arrived at the X5 Foundation by bus. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by enthusiastic social workers. They played videos of the foundation helping others on the big screen. They not only helped schools, but also helped individual families in the remote villages. We also read the gratitude letters written by the children to the foundation. The words they wrote are of course very childlike, and some have cute pictures next to them. It is really touching to think that so many children have grown up with the help of the X5 Foundation.
During the interview, the volunteers said that the money we donated will be used for helping mothers that are carrying fetuses with rare diseases. This makes me wonder how much donation, trust, and love of many people are required, to have so much money to pay for such an expensive treatment.
After the interview, I decided to carry forward this great foundation and let more people know about the X5 Foundation.

During this visit, we went to Dr. Tzu-Hung Lin’s X5 Foundation. As soon as we arrived, many volunteer workers welcomed us enthusiastically. In the headquarters building, there are some pillows and money banks with the foundation’s logo on them. There's also the decoration of a Lego model at the entrance. A volunteer worker showed us a video, mainly to explain the process and results of the foundation's Dreams-Come-True Program in Hualien's rural elementary school. They funded daily supplies and some musical instruments. On the other hand, most parents are rough laborers, so they don't have much time to accompany their children. To prevent these children from doing nothing and wandering around after school, the foundation also set up after-school programs like tutoring classes. After watching the video for a long time, the volunteers kindly provided doughnuts and milk, so we could have a break. Just as we were enjoying the snack, a tall man wearing a white hoodie walked in - Dr. Tzu-Hung Lin. Although he is the subject of our topic, that was the first time I met him in person. He patiently explained to us the process of establishing the foundation and touching stories that happened since its establishment. During this visit, I learned how the foundation's runs and their spirit, which helps us a lot for our project.
