Satoyama Initiative - Case Studies in the World

International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI) aims to investigate issues and solutions concerning the preservation and utilization of "socio-ecological production landscapes and seascapes (SEPLs)" across the globe. IPSI is a partnership that is open to all organizations worldwide willing to promote and support socio-ecological production landscapes, including national and local government organizations, indigenous and local organizations, academic and research institutions and more. Members of the IPSI collaborate to collect, analyze, and summarize lessons learned from case studies in various areas and share information through a networked database. They are also encouraged to do extensive and effective research and allocate more resources to the implementation of relevant programs, strengthen the capacity of stakeholders involved in maintaining or rehabilitating ecologically productive landscapes, and promote the sustainable use of natural resources through traditional land-use practices. In addition, they expand the network of interest groups to facilitate information sharing and understanding of the goals and actions of the Satoyama Initiative, which currently exists in more than a dozen countries, including the Philippines, Cambodia, Malawi, and the United States. In these countries, the concept of valuing the environment resonates with the principles of the Satoyama Initiative. Overall, IPSI aims to promote and support the sustainable management of natural resources and landscapes for the benefit of biodiversity and human well-being.
