We also help hospitals. Sometimes hospitals need special medical equipment, and they will have to apply for the funds from our government or their board. Once the hospitals apply for the funds, they might find out that they need more funds and it’ll take forever. For example, a child needs to have cardiac catheterization, which could cost over NT$10,000,000. The hospital might have the money to buy the catheter, but when the cardiac catheterization procedure is performed, they need an ultrasound machine to find the blood vessels. If the hospitals don’t have the money to buy that machine, they need to apply for it. It takes time, and that time can also cause a problem. Our charity will help these hospitals to buy these machines more quickly, so when babies that have rare diseases are brought for treatment, doctors can find the blood vessels easily so that the blood vessels won’t get ruptured. When hospitals make a request like this, we will contact the manufacturers and do our best to deliver to the hospitals.
◆ Hospitals
So far, X5 Charity Foundation has donated special x-ray machines (Intravascular Ultrasound) to four hospitals for cardiac catheterization:
1.National Taiwan University Hospital- Department of Pediatrics
2.Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital- Pediatrics
3.National Taiwan University Hospital, Yunlin Branch- Pediatrics
4.National Cheng Kung University Hospital- Pediatrics
From the perspective of sick children's parents, Dr. Lin hopes these children with rare diseases don't have to suffer from repeated exams prior to cardiac catheterization.
