A Big Victory for Kang Chiao Basketball Team
Suzy Cho, Miru Huang, Abigail Wu
Kang Chiao’s basketball team secured second place in the New Taipei City
Elementary School Basketball Tournament, competing against 40 schools. Founded
just three years ago, the young team achieved this result despite challenges such as
limited practice time and less game experience. They train only three hours a week,
while many competitors practice three hours a day. “We can’t practice every day
because of our schedule, so we spend our own time practicing to better support our
team,” said Lucas, a G6 player.
Many players did not start with strong fundamentals when they first joined the
team, but they improved step by step, from basic ball control to more advanced
moves. “Our coach, Mr. Huang, never gets upset when we can’t learn skills quickly.
He patiently guides us until we improve,” added another G6 player, Ryan. The
achievement has boosted the team’s confidence and motivated them to aim even
higher in future competitions.
A Journey of Growth Through Singapore Ian Straube, Urania Li

Thirty-two fifth graders traveled to Singapore from March 2 to 6 for a
five-day learning adventure. This long-running program, now in its tenth year,
offers KCIS students a chance to explore different aspects of this diverse
country. During the trip, they attended classes at Kong Hwa School, where they
experienced fully English-immersed lessons in subjects such as math, science,
and art. “Learning math in English is difficult for me, but it is interesting to see
how it brings people from different backgrounds together,” said Jill, one of the
students.
Beyond the school visit, the city itself left a strong impression. The greenery
throughout Singapore inspired students to reflect on caring for the environment.
“There are trees planted everywhere. It is such a green place,” added Vanessa,
another student. Overall, students gained a deeper understanding of Singapore
and observed how people show respect for one another and their environment.
