Students Learn and Give Through Fundraising
By: Janice Kao, Yuan Lien, Chloe Wang, Suzy Cho
On November 15, 2025, students from grades 3 to 6 went into the community to fundraise
for the Zhong Yi Foundation, which supports children without family care. Through the
fundraising events, students not only helped others but also grew in empathy, kindness and
courage.
“More than 97% of the students participated in this once-a-year fundraising activity, which
is a new record for us,” said Mr. Huang, the coordinator of DSA. This shows the students’
care for children in need. However, their enthusiasm didn’t always receive the same response
from others. Sometimes, people did not respond warmly when they explained the purpose
and asked for donations, yet they learned to remain kind and understanding. They were
encouraged to be polite and thankful to everyone they met. KCIS students are making a real
difference in these children’s lives while also experiencing meaningful personal growth.
Behind the Waves: KCIS Water Gala
By: Ian Straube, Elsa Huang, Ian Wu, Louisa Lin
Splash! The sound of kids cheering and water splashing, filled KCIS in October as
students from grades 3 to 6 raced in the annual swimming gala. Every swimmer gave
their best, and their parents cheered enthusiastically and captured the exciting moments.
Behind the excitement, school staff worked tirelessly to organize the event. “We had
to make sure each swimmer knew their assigned lanes ahead of the races,” said Director
Sung from DSA. On the day of the gala, the staff also played an important role. Swimming
coaches had to ensure safety, guided students during races, and even helped those who
accidentally swallowed water. Their goal was not only to keep the event running smoothly
but also to provide students with a safe, joyful experience. Despite the challenges, the
swimming gala became a memorable moment for teachers, students, and parents.
