★ Experiencing Children’s Day Events

During this year’s International Culture Week, students are learning about the meaning and origins of Children’s Day. They will develop a global vision, understanding, and respect for multicultural concepts by experiencing a variety of celebrations of Children’s Day in different countries. Students are partaking in a short lesson and trivia regarding the history and purpose of Children's Day. We are hanging up carp flags and setting up ornamental dolls as we learn how Children’s day is celebrated in Japan. This special day is set aside to respect children's personalities and to celebrate their happiness. In our last activity, students are wearing crowns of candles or tall paper cones to celebrate Children’s Day in Sweden, a special day where children dress up in white and resemble light and a bright future during the darkest time of the year.

Celebrating and appreciating cultures from around the world in an event like International Children’s Day continues to build interest and appreciation in different parts of the world while promoting children rights.

A big part of our International Week at the end of the year is to cultivate curiosity in the minds of our students to keep discovering parts of the world that contrast where they live. This will continue to build positive relationships between our unique cultures and celebrate each other as one large community.

When it comes to building our global future, there is no bigger asset than today's youth – this is the generation that will solve future crises, lead countries, write policies, innovate and preserve or destroy democracies and systems of justice. Let’s remember to love and respect our children and shape them into tomorrow’s leaders! The sweetest period of anyone’s life is their childhood. A very Happy International Children’s Day to all the kids in the world!
