   Prospect of International Department

Kang Chiao Bilingual School (KCBS) has a reputation of excellence and I feel fortunate to be joining a school culture that is focused on student learning and committed to high expectations, innovation and collaboration. It is my intent to continue to carry out these important traditions and practices. With the support from the Chairman Lee and Principal Chang, I would like to build on the same reputation here at KCBS and invite you to help us determine what is best for our students. I also like to share some information about my educational philosophy and responsibilities:

My educational philosophy:
*The most effective and successful educators exhibit the ability to reframe, appreciate the positive, and see how the future unfolds from the present.
They have Appreciative Intelligence, the ability to see the mighty oak in the acorn.
*Always focus on other people’s strength instead of weakness.
*Create and maintain a classroom climate that is conducive to student learning.
*Start where the students are – find out what our students’ interests are, what they feel good about, and what concerns them.
*Encourage our students to use writing as a tool for learning as they inquire into new ideas, and confront different ways of thinking about issues.
*Create opportunities for our students to learn in collaboration with others through small group work.
*Dignify the students by the way we use language with them and the way we treat them as individuals who can take charge of their own learning.
*Stop teaching in a vacuum – find colleagues of like minds who talk about their teaching and work at rethinking ways to become better at it.
*Read articles about teaching and learning and discuss them over lunch with colleagues.
*Visit one another’s classrooms and engage in discussions about what we have noticed.
*If it is good for students, then it is probably good for the school.
*If there is no fun in it, there is not going to be any long-term learning.
*Students are more important than teachers.
*Teachers are more important than administrators.
*Administrators are only important when they are helping students and supporting teachers.
*Tomorrow is always another wonderful day.

My responsibilities:
*The supervision and administration of all K-G12 English academic programs.
*The recruitment, supervision, and development of all foreign and Chinese English teachers.
*Monitoring, updating, and evaluating the International Department development plan.
*The fostering and maintenance of strong links between parents, staff, students, and the local community.
*Active participation in the promotion of the school.
*The promotion of connections with like organizations and professional groups.
*The provision of quality assurance for the school’s English programs and its operations.
*Promoting a positive school climate as well as academic excellence.
*Expand the International Department and then eventually set up Kang Chiao American School.
