Grade 6 Students Reached the Top of Jade Mountain

Kang Chiao Bilingual School’s grade 6 students set a new record for the youngest and the largest number of mountain climbers to reach the top of Jade Mountain (3,952 meters).

Most of the students were in good shape and safely descended to Tatachia(塔塔加), the entrance of Jade Mountain.

The students received their graduation certificates from President Li and Principal Chang on the highest peak in East Asia. The pride of reaching the top, the joy of graduating, and the beautiful scenery of Jade Mountain made the pain of the process worthwhile.

This activity started from May 10 to 13, as students were divided into 4 groups to ascend to the summit. The schedule was as follows: On the first day, the students entered Jade Mountain from Tatachia, hiking 8.5 kilometers and up 784 meters to stay overnight at Paiyun Lodge(排雲山莊). The next day, early before dawn, the students continued hiking 2.4 kilometers and up 550 meters to reach the top of the peak. After having received the certificates, they still had to walk 10.9 kilometers to descend the mountain.

On the way to the top, the students met a lot of mountain climbers from local areas, Japan, and Hong Kong. Some of them had doubts about whether or not our students could accomplish what they set out to do. When they saw the kids with large back packs and determination that was larger than life, their hesitation was replaced with admiration as passers praised, “Good for you all!”
